Does dairy affect asthma?

My younger brother has asthma, and sometimes after he drinks milk or eats paneer, he feels a bit wheezy and struggles to breathe. My mother thinks dairy might be affecting his breathing. Is there really a connection between dairy products and asthma symptoms?

I am reading up on this because my cousin has mild asthma. Some research says dairy doesn't actually produce more mucus, but it can make the existing mucus feel thicker and more uncomfortable. It seems to vary a lot from person to person.

I track my breathing and peak flow after meals on my health log. I noticed that on days I consume heavy dairy like paneer or whole milk, my chest feels slightly heavier. Keeping a food-symptom diary is a great way to see if dairy is a personal trigger for you.

I was recently told I have mild asthma and I love milk. Does this mean I have to completely stop drinking milk and curd? If anyone has replaced dairy, what alternatives worked best for you?

I have lived with asthma for thirty years. I noticed that cold dairy items like ice cream or cold buttermilk definitely trigger my wheezing. If I stick to warm, freshly prepared food, dairy doesn't cause me much trouble.

In our homes, we avoid giving cold milk or curd during cold weather as it can trigger congestion. Drinking warm milk with a pinch of turmeric and ginger is better, but if you have a severe asthma attack or breathing trouble, please go to a hospital immediately.
