Does codeine hurt your liver?

I've been prescribed codeine for some pain, and I'm always careful about potential side effects on my organs. I'm concerned if codeine can cause damage or hurt my liver.

Bro, if you take codeine as prescribed by a doc for a short time, your liver should be totally fine. But abusing it or taking massive doses can definitely mess up your liver and other organs. Better to be careful.

I was prescribed a cough syrup with codeine once when I had severe bronchitis. My doctor strictly told me not to use it for more than 3-4 days because long-term use is really hard on the liver and kidneys. Don't self-medicate with it.

Actually yaar, codeine is processed by the liver, so heavy or long-term use can put a lot of strain on it. If you are already having liver issues, then it is super risky. Better to talk to your doc before taking any such heavy meds.

I totally get it, worrying about medication side effects can make anyone anxious. Codeine can affect the liver if taken in large quantities or mixed with other drugs like paracetamol. Please check with your doctor to make sure you are safe.

I am actually quite new to this and don't know much about codeine. Is it found in regular prescription cough syrups? I would really like to know if we need to get liver tests done if we take it for a few days.

Our bodies are very intelligent, but we must not burden them with strong chemicals unnecessarily. Codeine can indeed strain the liver if used heavily. Stay positive, eat clean foods, and always take medications strictly under professional medical guidance.
