Does coca cola cause kidney stones?

I drink a lot of Coca-Cola, almost daily, and my mother always warns me about it affecting my health. Someone told me it can cause kidney stones. Is there any truth to this claim?

I totally get why you are asking this, even I used to panic after every bottle of cold drink thinking my kidneys are failing. Honestly, drinking too much cola can increase the risk of stones because of the phosphoric acid in it. If you are really worried, just scale back and focus on drinking more water instead of stress-thinking about it.

Arey, if cola was giving everyone stones instantly, half of our college hostel would be in the hospital by now! Jokes apart, yes, it does increase the risk if you drink it like water. Bas change your habit, leave the black drink for parties and stick to good old H2O at home.

It definitely has a connection if you are gulping it down daily. The high sugar and acid levels are not great for your hydration, which is the main cause of stones anyway. Just replace those cans with normal water or lime juice, and keep your daily movement up to help your body process things better.

I had to cut down on all aerated drinks due to my PCOS and insulin issues anyway, but my doctor also mentioned they aren't great for kidney health. I can't say for sure if one bottle will cause a stone, but avoiding it definitely saves you from a lot of health complications down the road. Better to be cautious.

See, anything in excess will harm your body, whether it is cola or something else. There is no need to completely panic and stop everything, just make it a weekly treat instead of a daily habit. Keep a water bottle with you all the time and drink at least 3 liters of normal water daily.

Oh god, I read a whole research paper on this because I was so scared! Yes, the phosphoric acid and high fructose corn syrup can actually make your body release more calcium in urine, which forms stones. It is very scary to think about, so please try to switch to plain water or nimbu paani just to be safe.
