Does cholesterol medicine cause weight gain?

I've recently started taking medicine for high cholesterol. A friend told me that some of these medicines can make you put on weight. Is it true that cholesterol medicine can cause weight gain as a side effect?

Don't blindly believe what people write on online forums about side effects. Everyone's body reacts differently, so it is best to ask your cardiologist directly. They can explain the actual science instead of all this internet hearsay.

In most cases, any slight weight change is due to reduced physical activity if the medicine makes you feel a bit tired initially. I always tell people to focus on strength training and eating enough protein. If you keep moving, cholesterol pills won't make you gain fat.

No, it generally doesn't cause weight gain. I've been taking it for a year with zero weight issues.

I log all my meals on MyFitnessPal and track my steps on my smartwatch daily. When I started my low-dose statin, my weight trendline on the app stayed completely flat for three months. It really comes down to tracking your daily calories and step count.

I have been taking these heart and cholesterol medicines for over fifteen years now, beta. Trust me, they do not make you fat if you keep your diet simple and walk in the park daily. Focus on keeping your heart strong and healthy.

Actually, weight gain is mostly a myth when it comes to these meds, yaar. Most of my family takes them and nobody got fat because of the pills. It is usually just our sedentary lifestyle that adds the extra kilos.

Sometimes thyroid issues can also start around the same time and cause sudden weight gain, which we might mistake as a side effect of the cholesterol medicine. I highly recommend getting a complete thyroid profile and lipid test done together. Let your doctor see the full report to find the real cause.

My cardiologist explicitly told me that statins do not cause fat accumulation in the body. However, some clinical studies show a very minor increase in blood sugar levels for a small percentage of patients, which can sometimes impact appetite. He advised me to monitor my fasting sugar levels annually just to be safe.

Please don't delay or stop taking your cholesterol medicine out of fear of gaining weight. I once ignored my high cholesterol levels thinking I could fix it naturally, and it led to severe blockage and a major hospital emergency. Go see your doctor, get regular blood tests, and follow their advice strictly.

Haan, start mein thoda tension hoti hai weight ki, but honestly cholesterol medicine se directly weight nahi badhta. Bas apni diet control mein rakho aur daily exercise karo na. Sab control mein rahega, chinta mat karo.

Even I started cholesterol tablets recently and I feel like my stomach feels slightly heavier and bloated. Did anyone else experience this kind of bloating in the first few weeks? I really hope it's not permanent weight gain.

My uncle was worried about this too, but he hasn't put on any weight since starting his pills. I think as long as you aren't eating junk food every day, you'll be completely fine. Don't worry about it!

Listen, don't stress too much about this, okay? Just focus on taking your medicine on time and drinking lots of water. A slight fluctuation in weight is totally normal and nothing to lose sleep over. You've got this!

I take both BP and cholesterol pills, and weight gain was my biggest fear too. But my doctor explained that managing lifestyle with low-sodium, low-oil foods is key. Regular checkups every six months will keep you on track and give you peace of mind.

We don't need to overthink this. Just make small, practical changes like replacing evening biscuits with roasted chana and walking for thirty minutes after dinner. This keeps your weight in check and helps the cholesterol medicine do its job better without heavy gym bills.
