Does chlorine affect eczema?

My daughter loves swimming, but she has eczema which sometimes flares up. We mostly use community pools that have chlorine. Does the chlorine in swimming pools typically affect eczema, making it worse for kids?

Yes, chlorine is a harsh chemical that can severely dry out and irritate eczema-prone skin. Don't rely on random internet creams or hacks to soothe it. Go visit a dermatologist to get a proper barrier cream prescription before you step into any pool.

Chlorine and eczema are like oil and water, they just do not get along! If you swim, you might end up looking like a red tomato. Just slather on some heavy moisturizer beforehand so your skin has a shield!

Yes, chlorine really strips the skin of its natural oils, making eczema act up. It is like eating too much spicy food; your skin reacts badly. I always make sure to drink lots of water and eat water-rich fruits to keep my skin hydrated from inside.

I love swimming, but the chlorine always triggers my eczema patches. My practical tip is to take a quick shower immediately after swimming and apply a thick layer of Cetaphil or coconut oil on damp skin. It really helps lock the moisture back in.

Chlorine definitely dries out the skin, which makes eczema worse. Since diabetes also causes dry skin for me, I have to be doubly careful. Always wash off pool water immediately and apply a doctor-approved moisturizer.
