Does childhood asthma come back?

My son had severe asthma as a child, but he seemed to have outgrown it. Recently, he's been having some breathing issues again. Does childhood asthma sometimes come back in adulthood, or is it something new?

It can definitely come back, especially during season changes or cold weather. I had it as a child and it returned when I turned thirty. Along with doctor's inhalers, drinking warm ginger water daily helped me manage the throat sensitivity.

Yes, absolutely. Many kids seem to outgrow asthma because their airways get larger, but it can easily trigger again in adulthood due to pollution or stress. It is very common in metros, so don't take it lightly.

Bro, same thing happened to me. I thought my asthma was gone forever when I was 12, but it came back with a vengeance when I moved to Delhi for college because of the heavy smog. Now I always keep my inhaler handy just in case.

Consult a pulmonologist

Don't panic if you are noticing symptoms again. Asthma can lie dormant for years and reappear due to new allergy triggers or dust. Just get a proper lung function test done and consult a good pulmonologist, you will be totally fine.

Yes, childhood asthma can return. Just like I have to monitor my thyroid levels regularly, you should keep an eye on your respiratory health and get regular lung checkups if you feel breathless. Consistent doctor follow-ups are very important.

Yes, it can recur. Often the hyper-responsiveness of the airways remains, even if you had no symptoms for years. If you are experiencing a persistent cough or wheezing now, it is best to see a doctor for a spirometry test rather than using old inhalers.
