Does castor oil help psoriasis?

I've been struggling with psoriasis patches for years, and while my medication helps, I'm always looking for additional relief. I heard that castor oil might be beneficial. Does castor oil help psoriasis, and is it safe to use on skin conditions?

I was just reading about natural remedies for skin scaling and saw some people suggesting castor oil for psoriasis. It seems like it could moisturize the thick plaques, but has anyone actually tried it? It is so thick and sticky, I wonder if it is hard to wash off.

I spent months rubbing different oils, including castor oil, on what I thought was just 'dry skin' on my scalp, only for my psoriasis to spread everywhere. Please don't waste time like I did. Go to a dermatologist and get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

I have seen many posts on this topic. Castor oil is very thick and helps lock in moisture, but psoriasis is an autoimmune issue, so topical oils only provide temporary dryness relief. You will still need proper medical treatment to control the flares.

My son has mild psoriasis on his elbows, and we have tried many home oils to soothe the scaling. Warm castor oil helps soften the hard skin plaques slightly, but it doesn't cure the redness. Please make sure to consult your child's pediatrician before using it regularly.

While tracking my skin flare-ups on my health log, I found that heavy oils like castor oil didn't show any improvement in reducing plaque redness. Scientific skin barrier moisturizers with salicylic acid work much better for scaling. Try tracking your own symptoms to find your best matches.

With my busy office schedule, applying sticky castor oil and waiting for it to absorb is just too time-consuming. It also stains clothes easily which is a hassle. Honestly, a proper dermatologist-prescribed cream is much cleaner and works much faster.
