Does castor oil help dandruff?

I've been dealing with persistent dandruff for ages now and nothing seems to work long-term. My grandma suggested trying castor oil. Does castor oil actually help dandruff, or is it just a myth?

Don't blindly follow internet trends; castor oil is extremely thick and sticky, which can actually trap dead skin and make your dandruff much worse. Dandruff is usually fungal, so you need an antifungal shampoo. Ask a dermatologist instead of ruining your scalp with heavy oils.

In our family, we mix a few drops of castor oil with coconut oil because castor oil alone is too thick for the scalp. It helps moisturize dry skin, but our skin doctor told us that for real dandruff, we must use a ketoconazole shampoo twice a week.

Dandruff can sometimes be triggered by stress and poor sleep, which also affects your overall health and blood pressure. I suggest using a mild shampoo and focusing on a good sleep routine. Consult a doctor if your scalp remains itchy and irritated.

I know how stressful it is when your scalp is constantly itching and you worry about hair fall. Castor oil might feel soothing if your dandruff is caused by dry skin, but please don't use too much of it. Start with a tiny amount to make sure your skin doesn't react badly.

I had severe flaky scalp and tried using pure castor oil, but it was a nightmare to wash off and actually clogged my hair follicles. The best trick is to dilute it with sweet almond oil and only leave it on for an hour before washing with a tea tree oil shampoo.
