Does caffeine affect kidney stones?

I've had kidney stones in the past, and I'm very careful about what I eat and drink now to prevent recurrence. I enjoy my daily coffee, but I'm worried it might contribute to stone formation. Does caffeine affect kidney stones, or is it generally safe?

Yes, excessive black tea or coffee can increase oxalate levels, which might lead to kidney stones if you don't drink enough water.

I just got treated for a 6mm kidney stone last month, and the pain was absolute torture. My doctor strictly told me to cut down on heavy tea and coffee because caffeine dehydrates the body quickly, making stone formation easier. Please increase your water intake.

My roommate had to be rushed to the hospital for kidney stones and he used to drink like 4 cups of black coffee daily during exams. Dehydration plus too much caffeine is a bad combo. Stay hydrated guys!

My urologist explained that tea is high in oxalates, which are the main building blocks of the most common type of kidney stones. He advised me to limit my caffeine intake and always drink a glass of water for every cup of tea or coffee I consume.

I had a small stone last year and had to stop my energy drinks completely. The high caffeine and sugar levels were definitely not helping. Switch to lime water or coconut water, it is much safer for your kidneys.
