Does benadryl reduce fever?

My kid has a high fever right now, and I'm trying to figure out what medicine to give. We have Benadryl at home for allergies. Can Benadryl help in reducing fever in children, or is it not suitable for that?

Actually, it doesn't reduce fever at all. I made this mistake once during a bad flu, thinking it would help with everything, but my doc told me Benadryl is only for allergies and cough. For fever, you usually need paracetamol, so better check with a doctor first.

No, Benadryl is an antihistamine meant to relieve allergy symptoms, runny nose, and sneezing. It does not contain any antipyretic properties to lower body temperature. If you have a fever, it is best to consult a medical professional for the right prescription.

It definitely won't touch your fever, my friend. When I have a fever, I just want warm ginger soup and light khichdi to feel alive, but I leave the fever-reducing to standard medicines. Better stay hydrated and eat something light instead of taking the wrong syrup.

No, it won't help with fever. When your body is fighting an infection, your temperature goes up. If the doctor says it's just a mild viral issue, I usually stick to complete rest, lots of water, and very light walking indoors just to keep the blood flowing, but definitely no heavy workouts or random medicines.

Don't waste money buying Benadryl for a fever, it is meant for allergies and won't work. Since fever can be due to many things, it is wiser to consult a doctor. Sometimes a simple consultation is cheaper than buying wrong medicines or delaying and ending up needing expensive blood tests later.
