Does benadryl help migraine headache?

Suffering from really bad migraines quite often, sometimes nothing seems to work. A friend suggested trying Benadryl. Can Benadryl actually help in relieving migraine headaches, or is it not meant for that?

I get so anxious when a migraine strike because the pain is unbearable. I've read that Benadryl is sometimes used in hospital ER 'migraine cocktails' because it calms the nervous system and helps you sleep. But please be careful and don't self-medicate too much.

Migraine pain is very terrible, ho na. Benadryl doesn't treat the migraine directly, but doctors sometimes give it with other medicines to help with nausea and to make you sleep through the pain. It is better to take actual migraine medicine prescribed by your doc.

It won't cure a migraine, it just makes you drowsy. A cheaper and better solution is to lie down in a dark, quiet room with a cold ice pack on your neck. Keep yourself hydrated with normal water instead of popping allergy pills.

Migraine pain is very hard to bear, my daughter also has it. Benadryl is for colds and coughs, so it will not make the pain go away. It only helps you sleep. Please show a doctor in a good hospital so they can give correct medicine.

At Fortis, the neurologist clearly explained that Benadryl is not a primary treatment for migraines. It is only used occasionally to manage nausea and help patients sleep during an acute attack. Please ask your doctor clearly about triptans or other specific migraine therapies.

For severe headaches, my mother always suggests resting in a dark room with a ginger pack on the forehead. However, if it is a true migraine, my doctor told me that Benadryl only helps by inducing sleep, not by curing the headache. Please consult a neurologist for proper treatment.

Using antihistamines like Benadryl for headaches is just covering up the symptom. I used to get terrible migraines, but practicing Anulom Vilom pranayama daily for 15 minutes has significantly reduced the frequency and intensity. Give your body a chance to heal naturally.
