Does beetroot juice cause kidney stones?

My family has a history of kidney stones, and my doctor suggested increasing my fluid intake. Someone told me that beetroot juice is very healthy, but I heard it might cause stones. Is this true or just a rumour?

Beetroot is actually very high in oxalates, which can contribute to calcium oxalate kidney stones if you have them in large amounts. With PCOS, I try to keep my diet balanced and avoid extreme juicing. If you have a history of stones, it's safer to talk to your doctor before drinking it daily.

My uncle had calcium oxalate stones and his doctor specifically told him to avoid beetroot juice. Beetroot is packed with oxalates, which bind with calcium in your kidneys to form stones. If you are prone to stones, it's probably best to limit it.

I can't give medical advice, but I used to drink beetroot and spinach juice every morning for health. Unfortunately, I ended up with a painful kidney stone, and the urologist told me both are extremely high in oxalates. Now I am very careful about what juices I drink.

Yes, absolutely. Beetroot juice is loaded with oxalates, which is bad news if you already get kidney stones. I had to cut down on beets and spinach completely after my first stone episode. Just drink plenty of water if you do eat them.

I drink beetroot juice occasionally to help manage my blood pressure naturally, but I am very mindful of the portion because of the kidney stone risk. If you have any history of kidney issues, balance is very important. Always get your kidney function and BP checked by a doctor regularly.
