Does beer affect kidney stones?
Had kidney stones before, and my doctor advised me to be careful about what I eat and drink. Wondering if drinking beer has any effect on kidney stones. Should I avoid it completely?

I agree with most comments here. Beer might make you urinate more initially, but it eventually dehydrates you, which actually increases the risk of kidney stones.
I can only tell you what happened to me. I used to think beer helps flush out stones, but drinking it regularly actually led to a very painful 6mm stone because of the uric acid spike. Everyone's body is different, though.
Yes, it can affect them negatively. Beer is high in purines, which can increase uric acid stones, and the high calorie content isn't good for metabolic health either. It is much safer to stick to plain water.
My husband went through this recently! People told him to drink beer to pass the stone, but it just made him super dehydrated and the pain got worse. Pure water and coconut water are much safer and actually help.
I am trying to learn about this because my father was recently diagnosed with a small stone. Some relatives are suggesting beer, but is that actually scientifically proven or just an old myth? I'm a bit scared to let him try it.
Please do not drink beer to treat kidney stones. I tried this foolish remedy and ended up with a blocked urinary tract and severe kidney infection that required emergency surgery. Go see a urologist immediately if you have pain.
I literally just got over a kidney stone last month. My doctor strictly told me to avoid beer because it raises uric acid and causes severe dehydration, which makes stones grow. Drink 3-4 liters of water daily, that is the only real cure.
Ah, the classic Indian uncle remedy: 'drink beer, stone will fall!' In reality, it just gives you a big belly and a massive hangover along with the stone pain. Stick to barley water instead, it's safer for our aging bodies!
Our bodies are beautiful systems that heal best with natural, pure elements. Beer adds toxins and strain, whereas simple pure water cleanses the kidneys gently. Stay positive, drink plenty of water, and take care of your health.
For small stones, drinking fresh lemon juice in warm water helps break them down naturally. But beer is not a good remedy and can cause other issues. If you have severe back pain or blood in urine, please go to a doctor immediately.
