Does bath help fever?
My daughter has a high fever today, and I'm trying to bring it down. My mother-in-law keeps saying to give her a bath, but I'm not sure if it helps or makes it worse. Does bathing actually help to reduce fever in children?

Hey, don't stress too much. A warm sponge bath can actually help bring down the temperature and make you feel fresh when you have a fever. Just don't use freezing cold water, okay? It will make you shiver and might increase the fever.
For mild fevers, we usually do cold forehead compresses or a lukewarm sponge bath at home to get some relief. But please remember, if the fever is touching 102 degrees or is accompanied by severe shivering and vomiting, bypass home remedies and see a doctor immediately.
No need to complicate things with cold showers. Just take a simple cloth, dip it in normal tap water, and wipe your hands, legs, and forehead. It works wonders to bring the body temperature down quickly without spending any money.
I always get so anxious when my temperature rises even slightly and worry if taking a bath will make me catch a cold. Actually, a lukewarm sponge bath is very safe and recommended. Just make sure the room is warm and you dry off immediately.
In our household, we always prefer a gentle lukewarm sponge wipe down during fever. Taking a heavy head bath when you are already weak is not recommended as you might feel dizzy. Rest well and keep sipping warm water.
My family doctor always says that a lukewarm bath is great for comfort, but it only cools the skin temporarily and doesn't cure the underlying infection causing the fever. He advised keeping hydrated and taking prescribed paracetamol if the temperature stays high.
