Does banana boat sunscreen cause cancer?

I use Banana Boat sunscreen regularly, especially when I go out in the sun for longer periods. Recently, I saw some news about certain sunscreens potentially causing cancer. I'm worried now, does Banana Boat sunscreen have this risk?

I actually did a lot of research on sunscreens when I was recovering from a skin scare last year. There were some recalls of specific batches of spray sunscreens because of trace amounts of benzene, but the sunscreen itself is meant to protect you from skin cancer. Just check the latest safety batches and use a good gel sunscreen.

When I asked my dermatologist at Aster Hospital about these sunscreen rumors, she said sunscreen is highly recommended to prevent UV damage which causes cancer. Some specific aerosol spray batches had issues, but standard lotions are safe. Always ask your skin doctor clearly if you have doubts about a brand.

Beta, sunscreens are made to protect our skin from the hot sun, they don't cause cancer. If you are scared of foreign brands, you can use any good Indian brand from the local chemist shop. Just apply it daily when you go out in the sun.

I used to make my own natural sunblocks with coconut oil, but they don't protect skin properly from the harsh Indian sun. Sunscreen is definitely necessary, and standard brands like Banana Boat don't cause cancer, though some spray versions had recalls due to chemical contamination. Use regular cream formulations to be safe.

I actually just started using sunscreen regularly because my skin is getting tanned. I was quite scared when I saw this question online. Does anyone know if standard mineral sunscreens are safer than spray ones? I want to be careful.

No, it doesn't. There was a specific product recall on some spray bottles due to benzene, but that isn't an ingredient in the sunscreen itself. Don't stop using sun protection based on half-cooked news; just stick to a reputed dermat-tested cream sunscreen for daily commute.
