Does back massage help pain?

I've been having a lot of lower back pain recently due to long hours at my desk job. My physiotherapist suggested regular back massages. Does back massage truly help alleviate chronic back pain effectively?

Sitting in an office chair for 9 hours daily ruined my lower back, and a light massage definitely helps relieve the muscle tightness. But don't expect it to cure chronic posture issues. It's better to invest in a good ergonomic chair and take 5-minute walking breaks every hour.

Haan yaar, a good maalish with warm sesame oil works wonders for daily fatigue! It really relaxes the stiff muscles after a long day of driving, na. Just make sure the person doing it doesn't press too hard on the actual spine area.

I know how terrifying back pain can be, especially when you start worrying if it is something serious like a nerve issue. A gentle massage can actually help calm your nervous system down and reduce that anxiety-induced muscle tension. Just keep the pressure light and soothing.

My physiotherapist explained that while a light massage increases blood circulation and temporarily reduces muscle spasms, it does not fix structural issues like scoliosis or disc bulges. For long-term relief, he advised core strengthening exercises like planks instead of relying solely on massages.

I would honestly sell my soul for a good back massage right now! My back aches from sleeping in weird positions due to insomnia, and a gentle massage with warm mustard oil is the only thing that helps me relax enough to sleep for a few hours.

Please be very careful with deep tissue massages. I once had a strong massage for what I thought was simple muscle soreness, but it turned out to be a herniated disc, and the heavy pressure made my pain ten times worse. If your pain is sharp or shooting down your legs, please see a spine specialist first.
