Does asthma cause runny nose?

Sometimes when my asthma flares up, I also get a really runny nose, almost like I have a cold. I'm curious if a runny nose is connected to asthma attacks or if it's just a coincidence.

Yes, it is usually linked to allergic rhinitis which goes hand-in-hand with asthma.

Ugh yes, whenever my asthma acts up, my nose starts running like a tap. It's so annoying during exams. I just carry loads of tissues and my inhaler everywhere.

I get so anxious when my nose starts running, thinking my asthma is getting worse. But my doctor assured me it's just allergies affecting both the nose and chest. Just keep track of your triggers so you don't panic.

Yes, they are highly connected. A simple and cheap solution is to do steam inhalation with a drop of eucalyptus oil before sleeping. It stops the runny nose and keeps the chest clear.

I don't have asthma, but my sister does and she always gets a runny nose before her breathing issues start. It is probably worth asking your doctor if you need an allergy nasal spray along with your inhaler.

Indeed, allergic asthma and allergic rhinitis are very closely related. If you treat the nasal symptoms, your asthma symptoms often improve too. Speak to your doctor about managing both together.

For years I've seen my family handle this. Drinking hot water with ginger, tulsi, and black pepper twice a day really dries up the runny nose naturally and opens up the chest. Give it a try alongside your medicines.

I was just diagnosed with asthma and my nose has been running constantly. Is it safe to take a normal cold tablet, or will it react with my asthma inhalers?

Yes, a runny nose is common due to the same allergic response. I try to avoid very cold foods and curd at night during these times to prevent worsening my nasal congestion and asthma.

Yes, allergies cause both. As a diabetic, I avoid sugary cough syrups for my runny nose and throat, and stick to plain steam and my doctor's prescribed nasal sprays. Keep your sugar and health in check.
