Does arthritis cause muscle pain in legs?

Along with the usual knee pain, my leg muscles also ache a lot, especially after walking or standing for a while. I'm wondering if this muscle pain is directly connected to my arthritis.

Yes, it absolutely does. When your joints hurt, your leg muscles work extra hard to support them, causing bad aches.

My grandmother used to say that joint pain makes the surrounding calf muscles very stiff and tired. But we must always confirm with the doctor first. He prescribed some mild physical therapy that really helped my leg cramps.

Oh God, yes! My mom gets terrible leg cramps because of her knee arthritis. We got her some comfortable orthopedic footwear and it has slightly reduced the strain on her calf muscles during her evening walks.

Look, if your joints are weak, your leg muscles have to bear all your body weight. That is why they pain so much. Go to a good orthopedist, get some exercises prescribed, and don't do any self-medication.

Please don't ignore this leg pain like I did, thinking it was just exhaustion. It turned out to be severe muscle strain due to bad knee alignment. Get a proper checkup done before you start limping or changing your posture.

I deal with chronic joint issues and PCOS, and I often get heavy leg pain. I am not a doctor, but I think the altered way we walk to avoid joint pain strains our leg muscles. Please discuss this with your specialist.

Yes, those calf muscles definitely complain when our joints are unhappy! Try keeping your legs elevated when sitting. A little gentle stretching really helps keep the soreness away.

I also get this sudden pain in my thighs and calves and I immediately start googling scary things. It is honestly so stressful. Please check with your doctor once, hopefully it is just muscle fatigue from adjusting your walk.
