Does anesthesia put you to sleep?

My doctor told me I'll be under general anesthesia for my upcoming surgery. I'm a bit anxious about it. Does anesthesia truly put you to sleep, like deep sleep, or is it something else completely?

Yes, general anesthesia puts you to sleep completely so you do not feel anything. Once you wake up and the doctor says it is okay, try to start with light walking around the room to get your circulation going again.

Yes, it puts the body into a deep state of rest so the doctors can do their work. Keep your thoughts positive and trust in the healing power of the universe. Take care.

I have never been operated on before and I am very nervous. Does the anesthesia medicine feel painful when it goes in, or do you just fall asleep gently?

General anesthesia induces a reversible state of unconsciousness, which is different from normal physiological sleep. Since different procedures require different types of sedation, it is best to discuss the specific plan with your medical team.

I was incredibly anxious about this before my wisdom tooth extraction. It is completely normal to feel scared of losing control, but the sleep is very peaceful and you wake up before you even know it.

Yes, it puts you to sleep, but everyone reacts differently to it. I had some severe nausea and dizziness when waking up after my procedure. Please discuss your medical history thoroughly with your anesthesiologist beforehand.

Actually yes, general anesthesia puts you out completely yaar. They inject it and within seconds you are in a super deep sleep. You won't even realize when the surgery got over.

I was just reading up on this because my cousin has an upcoming surgery. Apparently, only general anesthesia puts you in a deep sleep, while local anesthesia just numbs the specific area so you stay awake.
