Does amoxicillin treat uti and kidney infection?

I am so scared of kidney infections because the back pain is just unreal. My doctor told me amoxicillin isn't the first choice for kidney stuff anymore, but did anyone else here get prescribed a different salt for it? I feel like my symptoms are taking forever to go away and I am constantly panicking.
