Does als cause pain?

We've been researching ALS because a relative has been diagnosed. I know it affects muscle control, but I was wondering, does ALS cause pain, or is it more about weakness and paralysis?

Google will literally tell you that a simple muscle twitch is a sign of ALS, so please stay off those search results! Most everyday aches are just your body telling you to sit straight. Keep it simple and consult a doctor if you are actually worried.

Severe neurological conditions like ALS can cause discomfort due to stiff muscles and joint pressure, but it is not typically known as a primary pain disease in early stages. Gentle stretching and deep breathing can bring some relief to the body, but medical guidance is absolutely essential.

My uncle went through a lot of medical testing recently for nerve issues, and the doctors explained that while ALS mainly causes muscle weakness, the cramping can be quite uncomfortable. Don't read crazy stuff online though, it just builds unnecessary tension.

Hey, don't stress too much by looking up severe conditions online. Muscle stiffness and cramps can happen due to a hundred normal reasons like vitamin deficiencies or poor posture. Just get a simple checkup done by a doctor to clear your mind.

I have been having some weird muscle twitches and mild body pain, and honestly, reading about ALS online has made me so terrified. Did anyone else go through a phase of extreme worry over these symptoms? I really need to see a neurologist to calm my mind.

I can only speak from what we saw with my grandfather's condition. He did experience significant pain, but it was mostly from muscle immobility, cramping, and lying in the same position for too long rather than direct nerve pain. Every patient's journey is different, so please consult a specialist.
