Does alcoholism cause fatty liver?

My friend just got diagnosed with fatty liver, and the doctor asked him to stop drinking completely. I'm wondering how direct the link is. Does alcoholism really cause fatty liver disease?

Yes, chronic alcohol use is one of the main causes of fat buildup in the liver, which can lead to serious damage if not stopped.

Haan bhai, jo log lagatar daru peete hain unka liver dheere dheere kamzor ho jata hai aur usme fat jamne lagta hai. Humare pados me bhi ek bhaiya ko doctor ne bola tha daru band karne ko nahi toh liver kharab ho jayega.

Yes, it definitely does! 🍷 The liver has to process all that alcohol, which leads to fat getting stored in its cells. Cutting back on drinks and drinking plenty of water is the best gift you can give your liver! 💧✨

I was reading about this because my dad drinks occasionally. Does fatty liver happen only to heavy drinkers, or can even light social drinking cause it over time? I'm a bit concerned about him.

Yes, it absolutely does. Don't listen to internet posts saying you can prevent it by taking detox tea while continuing to drink. The only way to prevent alcoholic fatty liver is to stop drinking and get your LFT levels checked by a doctor.
