Does advil cause kidney stones?

I take Advil quite often for my chronic back pain. My brother recently had kidney stones, and now I'm worried about my own medication usage. Can frequent Advil use lead to kidney stones?

Oh my god, I also get so scared thinking about this whenever I take painkillers! I read somewhere that taking too many painkillers can put pressure on the kidneys. Pls drink lots of water just to be safe, ok?

Keep your mind calm and positive, my friend. Fear often worsens our physical symptoms. Take the medicine only when absolutely necessary, bless your body with good thoughts, and trust the healing power of nature.

Haha, I also panicked about this last year when my back was hurting and I was taking painkillers. My urologist laughed and said occasional use is perfectly fine. Just stay hydrated and you'll be absolutely okay.

I completely understand why you are asking this, health anxiety is so real and scary. From what I’ve learned, taking it once in a while won't cause stones. Try to do some deep breathing, drink some water, and talk to a doctor to put your mind at ease.

Not directly if you take it once in a while. But heavy daily use is definitely bad for your kidneys.

I have had kidney stones twice, and my doctor clearly told me that dehydration and high uric acid are the main culprits, not occasional Advil. But yes, if you already have kidney issues, avoid these tablets and stick to paracetamol after checking with your doc.

Honestly, I worry more about the extra spices in my biryani causing stones than a simple pill! But jokes apart, too much processed stuff and too many pills both need lots of water to flush out, so keep chugging that water.

I have thyroid issues and have to get regular blood and urine tests done anyway. My doctor always says not to pop over-the-counter pills like Advil casually as it affects the organs. Better to do a routine renal function test if you are taking it often.

Listen, don't worry. Taking one pill for a headache won't give you kidney stones overnight. Just make sure you are drinking at least 3 liters of water daily and don't make these pills a daily habit, thik hai?

My family physician told me that normal short-term use doesn't cause kidney stones directly, but chronic abuse of NSAIDs can definitely affect kidney function. If you already have renal issues, it is highly recommended to avoid it entirely.
