Does accutane cause psoriasis?

My friend who used Accutane for acne mentioned he developed some new skin issues after it, like redness and scaling. Someone told him it might be psoriasis. Can Accutane actually cause psoriasis to develop?

Actually, it is not a direct cause of psoriasis, but the severe dryness can sometimes mimic flaky patches or irritate existing skin conditions. I track all my physical symptoms on an app, and skin dryness peaks during this medicine. Make sure to consult your doctor to understand the exact difference.

Please keep your mind peaceful and do not worry too much. This medicine can make the skin extremely sensitive and dry, which people sometimes confuse with other issues. Keep applying a basic moisturizer, stay calm, and let your doctor guide your path.

I got so scared reading that it might trigger autoimmune things that I almost stopped my treatment! But my dermatologist told me it doesn't cause psoriasis, it just causes dry peeling skin. Still, if you see any thick red patches, please show your doctor immediately.

No, it doesn't cause psoriasis, but the extreme dryness can look like it. Definitely ask your dermatologist to check.

I just finished my course last month. My skin got so dry and flaky that I thought I was developing psoriasis, but it was just the medicine working. Once the course ended, my skin barrier went back to normal, so don't worry, but keep your doc informed.
