Does a urine test detect diabetes?

I went for a general check-up, and they asked for a urine sample. Does a standard urine test usually show if someone has diabetes, or is a blood test always necessary for diagnosis?

A urine test can show sugar but it is not the main way to confirm diabetes. Please don't rely only on this and get a proper blood test like HbA1c done at a lab. It is always better to be safe and let a doctor check the reports properly.

It can show sugar traces but a proper blood test is always needed to confirm diabetes. Definitely check with a doc.

Don't go by what people say on forums or random blogs about urine tests curing your doubts. A urine test only flags sugar when it is already quite high in the body. Go to a reputed path lab and get your blood sugar tested, then show it to an endocrinologist.

Actually, my doctor ordered both urine and blood tests recently when my sugar went up. The urine test just showed presence of glucose, but we had to do the fasting blood test to get the actual levels. Better to get the blood work done directly, it gives the clear picture.

I totally understand why you are asking this, health questions like this can make anyone super anxious. Honestly, I spent nights googling the same thing when I was scared about my health. While urine tests can show high sugar, please do a simple blood fasting test to put your mind at ease.
