Does a pulmonologist treat lung cancer?

My father recently got diagnosed with a suspicious spot on his lung, and the doctor said he might need to see a pulmonologist. I was wondering, does a pulmonologist specialize in treating lung cancer, or is that a different type of doctor?

Yes, they are usually the ones who help diagnose it and do bronchoscopies. But then they work along with an oncologist who handles the chemotherapy or radiation. I get so worried thinking about these things, but having a good doctor team really helps.

Look, they don't treat the cancer alone. The pulmonologist will do the tests to find it, but then a cancer specialist or oncologist is needed for the treatment. Go to a big hospital where both are available under one roof.

When my brother-in-law had lung issues, the pulmonologist was the first one to detect the tumor and guide us. They manage the breathing issues and biopsies, but for actual cancer treatment, you will also need a medical oncologist. Don't worry, the doctors work together.

They definitely help manage the lung capacity and breathing exercises during the process. While staying physically active and eating clean helps build stamina for any treatment, you absolutely need a combination of a pulmonologist and an oncologist for lung cancer.

Yes, they are involved in the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer. If you or a family member has a persistent cough, chest pain, or coughing blood, please don't ignore it. Get a chest X-ray or CT scan done and consult a pulmonologist immediately.

According to the specialist we consulted, a pulmonologist plays a huge role in diagnosing lung cancer and managing lung functions during treatment. However, the core cancer treatment like chemotherapy or surgery is handled by oncologists and thoracic surgeons.

Actually yaar, pulmonologists help a lot with the diagnosis, fluid drainage, and breathing support. But for the actual cancer treatment, they will refer you to an oncologist. It is always a team of doctors handling it together.
