Does a pap detect ovarian cancer?

I'm due for my regular check-up and a Pap test soon. I was told that Pap tests screen for cervical issues, but I'm also worried about ovarian cancer, as it runs in my family. Does a Pap test also detect ovarian cancer?

Please remember that a Pap test only screens for changes in your cervix. Ovarian cancer cannot be detected through a Pap smear. If you have bloating or pelvic pain, you must visit a doctor and get a proper pelvic exam or ultrasound done.

No dear, a pap smear is only for the mouth of the uterus, which is the cervix. It is a common confusion, even I used to think it checks everything down there when I was younger. Don't worry, just speak to your lady doctor, they will guide you on the right scans.

No, it actually does not. A Pap smear is specifically for cervical cancer screening, not ovarian. I had some health issues earlier and learned this the hard way, so please consult your gynecologist to understand what tests you need for ovaries, like an ultrasound.

Nahi yaar, Pap smear se ovarian cancer nahi pata chalta. Woh test bas cervical cancer ke liye hota hai, haan. Agar ovaries ka checkup karwana hai, toh doctor se alag se baat karni padegi, okay? Faltu ki tension mat lena ab.

Many women ask this, but no, the Pap smear does not detect ovarian cancer. It is strictly for cervical cancer. For ovarian concerns, doctors usually suggest a transvaginal ultrasound or specific blood tests, so do ask your gynecologist about those.
