Does a hot shower help with asthma?

Sometimes when I have an asthma flare-up, I feel like a hot shower helps me breathe a little better, especially with the steam. Is there any medical reason why a hot shower might be beneficial for asthma symptoms, or is it just my imagination?

Please be very careful because the humid steam in a hot shower can actually trigger a severe asthma attack for some people. I once tried this and had a horrible breathing issue that required an emergency nebulizer. Always consult your pulmonologist.

Sometimes a bit of warmth can relax the body, but steam can be heavy to breathe for weak lungs. I hope you find a safe and comfortable way to manage your symptoms.

I was diagnosed with mild asthma recently and I am quite nervous. Does the steam from a hot shower actually open up the airways or does it make it harder to breathe? I would love to know what others do.

Look, don't rely on hot showers to cure breathing issues. Asthma is a serious lung condition and needs proper inhalers prescribed by a doctor. If you are having trouble breathing, go to a hospital instead of trying steam therapy.

For me, the steam sometimes helps clear out mucus, but if the bathroom gets too stuffy, it actually makes me gasp for air. It's a 50-50 thing. Keep your rescue inhaler handy nearby just in case.
