Does a fever raise heart rate?

During my recent viral fever, my heart rate felt quite high and I could feel it beating in my chest. I was just wondering if fever naturally causes an increase in heart rate, or if it's something I should be concerned about next time.

Yes, it absolutely does. For every degree rise in body temperature, your heart rate can go up by about 10 beats per minute. This is why I completely pause my gym workouts and running during a fever, and only resume light walking once my doctor confirms my vitals are back to normal.

Honestly, whenever I get a fever and my heart starts pounding, I get so anxious that I feel like I am having a major heart issue. It is a vicious cycle because the anxiety makes the heart rate go even higher! Just try to tell yourself it is normal, and keep monitoring your temperature.

Listen, a fever is basically an alert mode for your body, so obviously the heart will beat faster to pump blood. Don't start panic-searching your symptoms on Google and making yourself more stressed. Just take your prescribed medicine, rest, and let the fever come down.

Drinking warm tulsi tea and staying hydrated helps cool the body and slowly lowers the pulse. But remember, if your heart is pounding very hard, or if you feel any chest pain or difficulty breathing, you must see a doctor immediately instead of waiting at home.

I got so terrified when my daughter's heart was racing like a train during a high fever. The doctor explained it is very common in kids and told us to focus on sponging her head with cool water to bring the temperature down. Once the fever broke, her heartbeat went back to normal.

The heart rate definitely goes up as the body works to fight the illness. During this time, eat very light, easily digestible vegetarian meals like khichdi so your body doesn't have to work extra hard on digestion. Keep sipping on warm water to help your system recover smoothly.

Yes, a high pulse rate is a standard physiological response to fever. Your body is working hard and needs more oxygen, so the heart naturally pumps faster. Keep taking your paracetamol as advised, drink fluids, and you will see the heart rate settle as your temperature drops.
