Does a fetus feel pain?

I am in my second trimester right now and sometimes I feel my baby move a lot. It makes me wonder if a baby in the womb can feel pain or discomfort? I want to make sure my little one is always comfortable.

Hey, please don't stress too much about all this right now. Science says the nervous system takes quite a long time to fully connect, so they don't feel pain in the early stages at all. Just focus on your health and eat well, okay?

We actually had a lecture on developmental biology last semester and the professor said the brain connections for sensing pain don't really form until around 24 weeks or so. Before that, it is mostly just basic reflexes. Hope this helps clear up the confusion!

Man, with my toddler kicking me at 3 AM, I sometimes think they only feel the urge to party inside. Joking aside, doctors told my wife that pain pathways don't develop until very late in the third trimester. Sleep while you still can, that is the real struggle!

When you are expecting, these kind of questions can really keep you up at night. I had so many worries because of my thyroid levels fluctuating, but my doctor cleared everything during our regular checkups. Please ask your obstetrician about this during your next scan to get scientific peace of mind.

During my pregnancy, I read a lot about this because I was also very curious and anxious. My gynaecologist told me that in the early months, the baby is cozy and doesn't have the conscious brain structure to register pain. I just trusted my doctor and tried to stay relaxed.
