Does a cortisone shot help arthritis?

My knee pain due to arthritis has been quite bad recently. My doctor suggested a cortisone shot, but I'm hesitant. Does a cortisone shot really help with arthritis pain and inflammation, and are there any major side effects?

Yes, it can provide significant relief from joint pain, but please consult your doctor carefully if you have diabetes. Cortisone is a steroid and can cause a temporary spike in your blood sugar levels for a few days, so you must monitor your glucose levels closely.

My father got a cortisone injection for his knee arthritis and it gave him relief for about 3-4 months. It is a good option if pain killers aren't working, but it is a temporary solution. You should discuss with your orthopedic doctor about long-term physiotherapy too.

Yes, it helps a lot by reducing inflammation and pain in the affected joint, giving you a break from the constant ache. Don't worry too much about the procedure, it is quick. Just make sure to get it done by a qualified specialist who can guide you on how often it can be safely repeated.

I've read that cortisone shots are quite helpful for severe joint inflammation. However, since everyone's hormonal balance is different, it's always best to be cautious and discuss any potential side effects with your specialist before going ahead with it.

Yes, it can ease the severe pain when home remedies or warm compresses stop working. But remember, it is a temporary relief and not a permanent cure. It is best used to get enough relief so you can start doing daily joint-strengthening exercises.
