Does a cool washcloth help fever?

My father has a high fever and is feeling very unwell. We've given him medicine, but I want to help more. Does applying a cool washcloth to his body or forehead really help to reduce a fever, or is it more for temporary relief?

I haven't tried this myself yet as I rarely get sick. Does the washcloth have to be kept on the forehead the entire time, or should we keep dipping it back in water after a few minutes?

Yes, it works well. Wiping the neck and face with a cool damp cloth also helps bring down the heat quickly.

It is a very good non-medicinal way to stay comfortable during a fever. Since I have high BP, I try to use these simple external remedies to manage mild discomfort instead of taking too many self-prescribed pills, though I always consult my doctor if the fever stays.

It is very helpful, especially when you want to avoid unnecessary medication. As a diabetic, I have to be careful with sugar-sweetened cough syrups or random medicines for fever, so using a simple cool cloth is a very safe home care tip.

Yes, it helps lower the skin temperature. When I get a mild fever, I just use a damp cloth, drink plenty of electrolyte water to stay hydrated, and rest instead of hitting the gym. It keeps the core temperature in check.

Yes, actually it is super helpful yaar. It doesn't cure the infection, but when you are burning up, that cool sensation on your head makes a huge difference. Definitely try it.

Yes, it brings peace to a restless body. Along with the cool cloth, try to take deep, quiet breaths and rest your mind. The body has its own beautiful way of healing when we keep ourselves calm and positive.

While it can lower the skin temperature, please don't rely only on this. I once ignored a high fever using just home remedies and ended up with severe dehydration and hospitalisation. If the fever is high or persistent, please consult a doctor immediately.

It definitely helps ease the heat, so don't worry. Just use a soft, clean cloth and normal tap water. Make sure to rest, stay warm under a light sheet, and let the medicine do its work.

Haan, normal paani ka gila kapda sir pe rakhna sabse aasan aur asardaar nuskha hai. You can also wipe the palms and soles of the feet, it really helps pull the heat away from the body very gently.

Yes, my physician explained that evaporation of moisture from a damp washcloth helps transfer heat away from the skin. It is highly recommended to use lukewarm or room temperature water, as ice-cold water can trigger shivering which actually raises internal body temperature.

Yes, a cool washcloth helps soothe the body. Once the fever breaks and you feel slightly stronger, taking a very short, gentle stroll can also help refresh you, but only if your doctor says it is okay to move around.

Just recovered from viral fever yesterday and this was my main comfort. When the head is heavy and hot, keeping a damp towel on the eyes and forehead was the only way I could get some decent sleep.

In our younger days, we always used wet cotton cloths to keep the fever down before seeing the doctor. It is a tried and tested method that is completely safe. Rest assured, it will make the person feel much better.

Ghar pe yehi sabse sasta aur safe tarika hai bukhar kam karne ka. Ek bada saaf rumal lo, paani me bhigo ke nichod lo aur sir pe rakh do. Jab kapda garam ho jaye, toh fir se dho ke rakh do.
