Does a comprehensive metabolic panel check liver function?

I recently had a comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) done as part of my health check-up. I'm wondering what all health aspects it covers. Does a comprehensive metabolic panel check liver function, or is it just for things like blood sugar and electrolytes?

Yes, it does. My doctor explained that a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) is a broad screening tool that includes critical liver enzymes like ALP, AST, and ALT, along with bilirubin and proteins like albumin. It gives a good initial picture, though a specific Liver Function Test (LFT) might be ordered if they need more details.

I am not very familiar with medical terms, so sorry if this is a basic question. Does this mean if my CMP is normal, my liver is completely fine, or do I still need to get a separate liver test done to be absolutely sure?

Yes, it does check your liver health along with kidney and blood sugar levels. It's a very standard test, so please don't worry, the report will give your doctor all the basic details they need.

Yes, it includes several liver markers, but whenever I get my annual checkups done at my hospital, I always ask the physician to explain what each value in the panel means. It's best to ask your doctor directly to interpret the results for your specific health background.

Haan na, isme liver function test ke basic points cover ho jaate hain. CMP me liver enzymes and bilirubin dono hote hain, toh alag se test ki zaroorat nahi padti daktar ko jab tak koi badi takleef na ho.
