Does a cold compress help a fever?

My grandson has a fever right now and is feeling quite hot. My daughter-in-law is using a cold compress on his forehead. Does a cold compress actually help to reduce a fever, or is it just for comfort?

Yes, it definitely helps. It brings down the body heat and makes you feel much more comfortable.

It is my go-to remedy whenever my kids get a fever. I use a soft cotton cloth dipped in normal tap water and put it on their forehead. It works wonders to keep the temperature from rising too fast before the doctor's visit.

Haan, it is very effective, but remember not to use ice-cold water as it can shock the system. Just normal ghar ka temperature water is perfect. You can also wipe the underarms and neck with the damp cloth for faster relief.

Yeah, it actually works. My mom always tells me to do this when I get sick at the hostel. Just use a clean wet handkerchief if you don't have a big towel, it does the trick.

Honestly, when my fever spikes at 3 AM and I can't sleep, a damp cloth on my head is a lifesaver. It’s the only thing that keeps me sane till the pharmacy opens in the morning. Just do it, it helps.
