Does a clean room improve mental health?

I've been feeling a bit low and stressed lately, and my room has become quite messy. Someone told me that keeping a clean room can actually improve mental health. Is there any truth to this, or is it just a saying?

I was actually reading a few psychology articles on this and yes, there is a huge link. A cluttered space apparently increases cortisol levels, which is the stress hormone. Having a clean room really does help clear your head and make you feel more in control.

Look, if your room looks like a garbage dump, your mind will also feel messy and chaotic. It's simple logic. Clean your desk, make your bed first thing in the morning, and see how much lighter and better you feel. Try it for a week.

While a clean room definitely provides a calming environment, please remember that it is not a cure for clinical depression or anxiety. If you are struggling with persistent low mood or lack of energy to even clean, please seek help from a qualified therapist or doctor for proper support.

Just like eating clean, organic vegetarian food purifies your body from the inside, keeping your living space clean purifies your mind. A neat room reduces physical distractions, which naturally helps you focus better on mindful eating and healthy living habits.

For me, a clean room and a clean kitchen slab make my mood instantly better! I can't enjoy my evening snacks or coffee if there is clutter all around me. A neat space just makes the food taste better and the mind feel peaceful.
