Do you sneeze while you sleep?

My roommate told me she heard me sneeze last night while I was sleeping. I didn't think that was possible! Can you actually sneeze when you're asleep, or was she just mistaken?

Actually, it is physically impossible to sneeze during deep sleep because your body goes into a state of temporary muscle relaxation, and the reflex nerves are shut down. If you do sneeze, it means you actually woke up slightly due to an allergy or dust, sneezed, and then went back to sleep without remembering it.

I agree with the others, your body reflex is shut off during deep sleep. If you are waking up to sneeze, keeping your room dust-free or using an air purifier can really help.

Before you spend a lot of money on expensive allergy tests and specialist consultations, just try basic lifestyle changes. Vacuum your mattress yourself and wash curtains to see if it stops. If the issue persists, then budget for a proper allergy specialist visit.

In our time, we believed that dust in the bedroom causes these nighttime disturbances. Try to clean your bedsheet and pillows daily, and maybe have a cup of warm turmeric milk before bed to soothe your throat and nasal passage. If the sneezing is severe and wakes you up gasping, please consult a doctor.

My roommate told me I sneezed once in my sleep, but I don't remember it at all. Apparently, your brain shuts off the sneeze reflex when you are out cold, so you probably woke up for a microsecond, sneezed, and forgot. Nothing to worry about.

The body naturally quietens its reflexes during deep sleep, so actual sneezing doesn't happen when fully asleep. Doing some gentle Jal Neti or basic pranayama in the morning can clear your nasal passages, reducing any nighttime irritation naturally.
