Do you smell burnt toast when having a heart attack?

My neighbour recently had a heart scare, and he mentioned something about weird smells before it happened. I remember hearing somewhere about smelling burnt toast with a heart attack. Is this a real symptom we should look out for?

That is mostly a myth. If you have chest pain, pressure, or shortness of breath, call an ambulance immediately.

I had a heart attack last year and there was absolutely no weird smell. I just felt a heavy squeezing pressure in my chest and started sweating profusely out of nowhere. If you or anyone near you has these symptoms, please call for medical help immediately, don't ignore it.

Arre, if I smell burnt toast, I usually just check if my wife is burning breakfast! Jokes apart, heart attack symptoms are usually pressure in the chest or extreme breathlessness. Don't wait around searching for weird smells if you feel unwell, go to a doc.

Honestly, that burnt toast thing is mostly an old internet rumor. Real heart attack signs are very different, like chest pain, feeling lightheaded, or pain in the jaw and back. It is always better to be safe and go to a hospital if you feel any sudden discomfort.

Smelling burnt toast is actually more commonly associated with neurological issues like seizures or strokes, not heart attacks. If you are experiencing chest tightness, sweating, or pain radiating to your left arm, do not waste time reading online. Get to the nearest cardiac emergency room right away.
