Do you run a fever with croup?

My little one has developed that harsh, barking cough, and it sounds like croup. She's not running a high fever right now, though. Is it common to have a fever when a child has croup, or can it just be the cough?

Yes, a mild fever is quite common with croup since it is a viral infection. I always track my child's temperature trends on our family health app to share with the doctor. Make sure to monitor their breathing patterns closely.

When my toddler had that distinct barking cough from croup, she also ran a low fever of around 100 degrees. It was a stressful night, but her pediatrician guided us through it.

Yes, a low-grade fever is typical with croup. You can use a cool-mist humidifier in the room to help soothe their airways. If you notice any blue color around their lips or severe breathing struggle, go to the emergency room immediately.

I totally get it, hearing that harsh barking cough in a child along with a fever can be incredibly scary for any parent. Try to keep them as calm as possible because crying can make the breathing worse. Please reach out to your pediatrician immediately.

Haan na, baccho ko croup hota hai toh fever bhi aa jata hai. It is very worrying to hear them cough like that. Better to call the doctor directly instead of trying things at home.

I was looking up croup symptoms and yes, a mild fever is listed as a very common symptom along with that loud, raspy barking cough. It mostly affects young children, so a quick doctor's visit is definitely recommended.
