Do you need to fast for a liver panel?

My doctor has asked me to get a liver panel done as part of my routine check-up next week. I completely forgot to ask him if fasting is required for this particular test. Do I need to fast before giving my blood sample for a liver panel?

Yes, usually a 10 to 12-hour fast is required for accurate liver panel results. I always schedule my blood tests early in the morning, do a light walk afterwards to keep the circulation going, and then have a clean high-protein breakfast.

From what I have experienced during my routine health checks, fasting is generally recommended for a liver panel to get accurate enzyme readings. However, please confirm this with your lab assistant or doctor beforehand, as requirements can vary.

Beta, for most blood tests related to the liver, it is best to keep your stomach empty for at least 8 to 10 hours. Drinking simple plain water is fine. After the test, you can have a cup of warm ginger tea to soothe your digestive system.

My health tracking app always prompts a 10-12 hour fasting window for any liver function or metabolic panel tests. It helps keep the lipid and enzyme baselines clear. Just log your last meal timing carefully before going to the lab.

I totally get it, waiting to eat when you are starving in the morning is the absolute worst. But fasting for about 10 hours is really important for liver tests so the results don't get messed up. Keep a small snack in your bag to eat right after the blood draw!

Haan, liver panel ke liye hamesha fasting recommend karte hain, na. Doctor ne mujhe bola tha ki subah bina khaye-piye hi aana tabhi report bilkul sahi aayegi. Toh dinner thoda jaldi kar lena ek din pehle.
