Do you need dialysis with stage 4 kidney failure?

My elderly mother has been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure, and we are all very concerned. The doctor explained a lot, but I am still confused about one thing. Is it certain that she will need dialysis with stage 4 kidney failure, or are there other options?

While stage 4 is serious, keeping active with very light, doctor-approved walks and keeping your nutrition clean is super important. High protein diets are a big no-no here, so you have to work closely with a clinical renal dietitian to protect whatever kidney function is left.

Stage 4 is advanced, but dialysis isn't always started immediately. In my case, we managed to delay it for almost a year by strictly cutting down on sodium, potassium, and monitoring our fluid intake very closely. Keep close contact with your nephrologist, they will tell you when the body actually needs that support.

Haan, stage 4 toh thoda serious ho jata hai, par zaroori nahi ki turant dialysis shuru ho jaye. Humare padosi bhi isi stage par hain aur unka treatment medicines se chal raha hai abhi. Doctor se ache se baat karo aur tension mat lo na.

I am quite new to this and still trying to understand the reports of my aunt. Does stage 4 always mean that dialysis will eventually be required, or can we stay at stage 4 forever with the right medicines and diet?

Even with stage 4, don't completely stop moving if your doctor allows it. Mild 15-minute gentle walks can help keep your blood circulation and heart healthy, which is very important when kidneys are struggling. Just don't overexert yourself.

Honestly, just reading 'stage 4' kept me awake all night worrying for my uncle. But the doctor basically told us dialysis isn't automatic yet; it's more like a yellow light telling us to slow down and manage things strictly. So don't lose sleep over it, just follow the medical plan.

In stage 4, the kidneys are severely damaged, but dialysis is usually reserved for stage 5 when toxins build up too much. For now, focus on keeping your blood pressure and diabetes under strict control, as these are the main culprits that speed up kidney damage.

You have to be incredibly careful with food at this stage. High-potassium vegetables like potatoes and leafy greens need proper leaching, and dairy should be limited. Please get a customized kidney-friendly diet chart from your doctor before making any major food changes.

As someone managing high sugars, I know how fast it can hit the kidneys. In stage 4, you have to be extremely careful with both your glucose levels and your renal diet. Dialysis might be near, but keeping your blood sugar stable can help buy you some precious time.

Instead of panicking about dialysis costs and setup, focus on what you can control today. Make a proper chart of daily fluid intake, buy a reliable BP monitor for home, and strictly avoid taking any over-the-counter painkillers which can ruin the kidneys further.
