Do you need dialysis for stage 3 kidney disease?

My father's kidney function has been deteriorating, and the doctor said he is in stage 3 kidney disease now. We are quite worried about what this means for his future. Does stage 3 kidney disease automatically mean he will need to go on dialysis soon?

Hey, please don't stress too much! Stage 3 means the kidneys are working moderately well, so dialysis is absolutely not needed right now. You can manage this beautifully with some diet changes and medicine, so take a deep breath.

At stage 3, dialysis is not indicated because the GFR is still in a manageable range. The goal here is to stop the progression to stage 4 or 5 through strict BP control and diet. Please consult a nephrologist immediately to map out a long-term management plan.

My grandfather is on stage 3 for like three years now and he doesn't need any dialysis. He just eats simple food, takes his regular pills, and avoids salt. So don't worry, it is totally manageable if you follow the doc.

Yes, I agree with others. Dialysis is definitely not required for stage 3; focus on low-sodium diet and follow your doctor's prescriptions regularly.

We were so terrified when our son's reports showed moderate kidney strain, but the specialist reassured us that dialysis is only for end-stage failure. Right now, focusing on a healthy, controlled-protein diet and keeping track of fluid intake is what works. Stay strong, you have time to manage this.
