Do you lose calories when you sleep?

I'm trying to manage my weight and heard that your body burns calories even while you sleep. Is this true, and if so, is it a significant amount that helps with weight loss?

Haha, yes we actually do! Our body is burning fuel even when we dream about biryani. But don't let this be an excuse to have a heavy midnight snack, our metabolism is still slower at night.

You do burn basic calories for breathing and circulation, but if you are noticing sudden, unexplained weight loss during sleep or daytime, please see a doc. I ignored my sudden weight loss thinking it was high metabolism, and it turned out to be a severe thyroid issue that caused complications.

Don't fall for those internet hacks claiming you can burn hundreds of calories just by sleeping a certain way. Yes, the body uses basic energy, but for actual health goals, you need proper diet and exercise. Consult a real nutritionist instead of relying on online forums.

Beta, the body never stops working, even when we sleep it is repairing itself and burning basic energy. Focus on getting 7-8 hours of peaceful sleep rather than counting every single calorie. Good sleep keeps the mind and body healthy.

Yes, the basal metabolic rate burns calories, but your sleep quality matters more. Poor sleep raises my BP immediately, so I prioritize rest. Keep a check on your lifestyle and get regular checkups to make sure everything is fine.

From what I have read and tracked on my smart band, my body burns around 50-70 calories per hour while sleeping. It is just the basic energy to keep us alive. I am no expert, but this is just my personal daily observation.
