Do you have to fast for liver enzyme test?

My doctor has asked me to get a liver enzyme test done next week. I'm unsure if there's any special preparation, like fasting, required for this particular blood test.

Yes, unfortunately you have to stay hungry for about 10 hours. It is the only way to make sure your liver enzymes don't act up in the reports because of that heavy dinner you had last night!

I was looking into this for my mother's routine checkup. Most diagnostic labs do ask for an overnight fast of 10 to 12 hours for liver enzymes (like SGOT and SGPT) to ensure the baseline levels are clear.

Yes, fasting for 10-12 hours is required, which means no late-night snacks or morning sweets! Food triggers liver activity, which can change the enzyme levels. Just bear with it and treat yourself to a huge breakfast after.

It is best to fast for 10 hours so your reports are perfectly accurate on the first try. You don't want to pay twice for a re-test because a meal messed up your enzyme readings. Book an early morning slot to save time.

I got so scared when my doctor ordered a liver test and I forgot and had a biscuit in the morning. But the lab assured me that a 10-hour overnight fast is just preferred to avoid any minor variations, so don't worry too much.
