Do you grow while you sleep?

My daughter is almost 10, and she's very curious about how our bodies work. She asked me if people actually grow taller when they're sleeping. Is there any scientific basis to the idea that growth spurts happen while we sleep?

Yes, it is scientifically true. Your body releases growth hormones mostly during deep sleep.

Haha, I wish we could burn calories while growing in our sleep too! But yes, scientific studies show that deep sleep is when the body does all its major building and tissue repair. So eat a good dinner and sleep well!

Listen, there is no shortcut to this. Your body actually releases the growth hormone when you are fast asleep at night. If you or your kids are staying up late scrolling on phones, you are harming your health and growth. Sleep on time.

Yes, the body grows and heals during rest. Ensure kids have a quiet, dark room to sleep in so they reach deep sleep quickly. No need for costly supplements, just good sleep hygiene and a balanced diet are enough.

As someone who monitors health closely, I know that sleep affects all hormones, including growth and insulin. Getting 7-8 hours of quality sleep helps the body function and repair itself properly, which is essential for people of all ages.

I was reading about this during my recovery from a major muscle injury. My doctor emphasized that tissue growth and repair peak during deep sleep phases, which is why rest is the most critical part of healing.
