Do you feel hot or cold with a fever?

Woke up with a fever this morning and it's quite confusing. One moment I'm shivering and feeling cold, and the next I'm sweating and feeling really hot. When you have a fever, do you typically feel hot or cold, or can it be both?

You actually feel both; you get chills when the temperature is rising, and you sweat when the fever is breaking. When I visited Apollo Hospital, the doctor clearly told me to monitor the exact temperature with a thermometer instead of just guessing by touch.

Usually, my mother says that when the body is fighting an infection, you feel very cold and shiver first. But we should always trust our family physician's advice. If the fever is high, please take a paracetamol as prescribed and rest well.

Bukhar chadhne par bahut thand lagti hai aur kapkapi hoti hai, phir baad mein tapman badhne par garmi lagti hai. Main toh aise mein soti kapde se matha ponchti hoon aur garam kadha deti hoon. Bahut aaram milta hai.

It is completely normal to experience both sensations. Your brain resets your body's thermostat, which makes you feel cold and shiver initially, followed by feeling hot as the fever peaks. Consulting a medical professional is always best if it lasts more than three days.

You will feel both cycles, which is standard during an infection. To get back to work quickly, keep a digital thermometer handy, record your temperature, and take paracetamol if it goes high. Stay hydrated to help break the fever.

I agree with others; you definitely feel both cold shivering and hot sweating. Drinking warm water throughout the day helps ease both sensations.

Man, trying to sleep with a fever is like being in an oven and a freezer at the same time. I spent the whole night tossing blankets on and off yesterday. It is incredibly exhausting, but it means your immune system is working!

Hey, don't stress too much! Feeling both hot and cold is just your body fighting off the bug. Just keep a light blanket nearby so you can easily cover up when you shiver and remove it when you feel hot. You'll be fine soon, buddy.

Bro, it is the worst feeling ever. One minute you are shivering under two blankets, and the next minute you are sweating and throwing them off. It is just your body's thermostat going crazy, totally normal but super irritating.

Yes, the chills and hot flashes are normal immune responses. Avoid trying to sweat out the fever with intense exercise or heavy jackets, as it can cause dehydration. Just rest, eat clean, and keep drinking plenty of electrolytes.
