Do you feed or starve a fever?

My son has a fever and everyone in the family is giving me different advice about what he should eat. Some say to give light food, others say not to eat much at all. What is the generally accepted advice: should you feed a fever or starve it?

Feed the fever, but be very careful if you have diabetes. Stick to low-glycemic, light foods like vegetable broth or oats porridge instead of sugary fruit juices which can spike your blood glucose level. Keep monitoring your sugar levels closely.

Humare ghar mein toh hamesha seekha hai ki bukhar mein thoda-bahut jaroor khana chahiye. Garam tulsi ka kadha aur daliya dene se sharir ko garmi milti hai aur kamzori nahi aati. Bhookha rehne se bukhar aur badh jata hai.

I agree that you should feed a fever; staying hydrated with coconut water and eating light khichdi is the best way to recover quickly.

Yaar, please don't starve yourself, this is not the time for dieting! Your body is fighting an actual battle inside, so feed it light, warm food like soup or toast. Get some decent rest and don't make yourself weaker.

You definitely need to feed it because your body is burning extra energy to raise your temperature and fight the bug. Keep the food clean, simple, and high in fluids, like a warm chicken or lentil soup. Skip the workouts and just rest.
