Do you feed a fever or starve a fever?

A mild fever today has left me feeling a bit weak. I remember hearing the old saying, "feed a cold, starve a fever," but it sounds a bit counter-intuitive. What's the right approach when you have a fever - should you eat or avoid food?

You should definitely feed a fever. The body needs calories and energy to fight off the infection, so never starve yourself.

Feed it, please! My body already feels like a broken auto-rickshaw during a fever, and starving would just take away whatever little fuel is left. Just keep eating light, warm food and ignore those ancient myths.

Feed it, but keep it simple with low-cost home food like dalia or rice gruel. Don't buy expensive multivitamin juices. If the fever stays high for 3 days, keep some budget aside for a basic CBC test to check for infections.

You must feed the body clean, light vegetarian foods during a fever. Soups, steamed vegetables, and warm water are excellent. Avoid heavy paneer or fried food as your digestive fire is weak during illness.

Definitely feed it. The 'starve a fever' thing is a total myth. Your immune system needs fuel to fight the virus or bacteria, so eat light, high-protein meals and stay well-hydrated.

In my seventy years, I have seen many people fall sick, and starving always makes the recovery twice as long. Always feed the fever with soft, warm foods. Your body will thank you and recover much faster, trust my experience.

I always get so confused because my mother-in-law says to starve it and only drink water, but I feel so weak. Does anyone else feel super dizzy if they don't eat during a fever? I think feeding it is better.
