Do you cough while you sleep?

My husband keeps telling me that I cough a lot in my sleep and it disturbs his rest. I don't even realize I'm doing it! Is it normal for people to cough during sleep, or could it be a sign of something more?

Honestly, this was happening to me every single night last winter. I realized it was because of the dry air in my bedroom, so using a humidifier really helped. Also, having a warm cup of water right before sleeping made a big difference for my throat.

Coughing during sleep is actually very common and often caused by post-nasal drip or mild acid reflux that gets worse when you lie down. Try keeping your head elevated with an extra pillow and see if it reduces. If it persists for more than two weeks, please see a doctor.

It is so exhausting when a nighttime cough keeps you awake, I completely understand the frustration. I used to cry because of the lack of sleep and the constant chest pain from coughing. Please be gentle with yourself and get a doctor to check if it is asthma or allergy.

Yes, coughing in your sleep can happen due to allergies or dust in the room. Try cleaning your bedsheets and pillows thoroughly. Hope you get some peaceful sleep soon.

Oh, nighttime coughing is the worst! It usually happens because gravity makes all the mucus settle in your throat when you lie flat. Try some warm tulsi tea before bed, it works like magic to keep the throat relaxed so you can sleep peacefully.

Beta, coughing at night can disturb your body's rest deeply. You can try keeping a small piece of ginger with a drop of honey in your mouth before sleeping, it soothens the throat. But if the cough is dry and very heavy, please let a doctor listen to your chest.
