Do you burn more calories when you have a fever?

Recovered from a high fever last week, I felt so hungry afterwards. My mother always said to eat well when you have a fever because your body is working hard. Do we burn more calories when we have a fever and our body temperature is high?

Yes, absolutely! For every degree your temperature rises, your body's engine runs much faster and burns quite a few extra calories. So even though you are just resting in bed, your body is working super hard behind the scenes. Keep sipping on warm soups and stay hydrated!

Yes, your basal metabolic rate increases significantly with a fever, meaning you burn more calories just to maintain that high temperature. Because of this, it is very important to nourish your body with easy-to-digest, energy-giving vegetarian foods like hot dal shorba, rice kanji, or boiled potatoes rather than starving yourself.

Haan yaar, actually fever mein body ka temperature badhta hai toh metabolism ekdum high speed pe chala jata hai. Isliye hum itna thaka hua feel karte hain kyunki body andar fight maar rahi hoti hai. Toh dieting ka sochna bhi mat abhi, bas aaram se pet bhar ke khana khao aur thik ho jao.

Hello, I am a bit new here and wanted to ask: if we burn more calories during a fever, is that why we feel so extremely weak afterwards? I noticed I lost some weight after my last viral fever, and I am not sure if I should be eating more to compensate. Any gentle tips would be really helpful.

While it is scientifically true that metabolic rate rises with fever, please don't trust random internet claims that suggest using this as some sort of weight loss method. A fever is a sign of infection and needs proper medical attention. Verify any major dietary or care steps with a qualified doctor first.
