Do type 2 diabetics take insulin?

My father has Type 2 diabetes, and he takes medication, but not insulin injections. I thought all diabetics eventually needed insulin. Do people with Type 2 diabetes generally take insulin, or is it only in specific cases?

Some do, especially if their blood sugar levels are very high and cannot be managed by diet or oral medicines alone. However, many can manage it with regular walking and a healthy diet, provided their doctor says it is enough. It depends entirely on your current health status.

Haan na, initially people only take tablets, but sometimes if the sugar is not coming in control, doctors do prescribe insulin. It is not something to be scared of, it just helps keep your organs safe, ho na.

Yes, in advanced stages or during high stress, Type 2 diabetics may need insulin. Controlling your carbohydrates and sticking to a high-fiber vegetarian diet helps, but never stop your prescribed insulin without your doctor's green light.

My doctor recently suggested starting insulin for my Type 2, and I am feeling so anxious about it. Did anyone else here have to start insulin after years of just taking tablets? How did you manage the transition?

My uncle has Type 2 and he only takes tablets and goes for morning walks. But his doctor told him if he doesn't control his sweet cravings, he might have to start taking insulin injections too. It basically depends on how you manage your daily lifestyle.

I am quite new to this and my father was just diagnosed. Does needing insulin mean his Type 2 diabetes has become very severe, or is it just a temporary thing to bring the initial high numbers down? Any guidance would be really helpful.

Not all of them, but yes, some Type 2 patients require insulin if their pancreas starts producing less of it over time. It is a very normal step in diabetes management. Don't worry, just follow your doctor's dosage plan carefully.
